What If...

A portrait is a way of honoring, focusing, sentimentalizing, recording, contextualizing and pointing to the past and future. Portrait Parking Ticket is a collaboration of entity, artist, portrait and text. The portrait of the parking structure on one side of your ticket personalizes this public place, while the words on the other side offer gratefulness to you for your rental of a space and your subsequent intrinsic contribution to many important City of Eugene downtown resources and programs. If you park on this street or in the garage this week you may be lucky enough to get an artwork ticket. Pay it forward.

The Distance Between Us

Bret Pendlebury:

Introduction:
Bret moved to Eugene recently. He totally has the PNW look down cold, though.

Bio:
Bret Pendlebury's artworks have an element of nostalgia and historical association that seems to touch and celebrate our deeply personal worlds and broader social memories. 12 years ago, while Bret was exploring abstract and surreal ideas in his paintings and drawings, Bret inherited his grandmother's 1930's high school yearbook. He started drawing the people in it, partly because he was intrigued that no one smiled for photos in that era. Everyone seemed so serious. Now his work is informed by vintage yearbooks he collects from all kinds of places as well as other objects and images. Raised in Coconut Grove, Florida, Bret now lives and has a studio near Eugene's downtown neighborhood.
